Liquid Storage Capacity Increasing In Antwerp

Oiltanking Antwerp Gas Terminal (OAGT) is set to double the capacity of its butane gas storage facility, which will make it the largest independent gas terminal in north-west Europe.

According to the American Journal of Transportation, the organisation is investing more than €1 million in the new storage facility, as well as building a new landing jetty for Ineos.

The work is due to be completed by 2019, which will bring the capacity of its terminal up to 273,000 cubic metres. Ineos plans to use the facility for intermediate storage of its butane, with CEO of the company David Thompson explaining why it’s a good move for the company.

“This tank and terminal will give Ineos greater flexibility and security in its supply chain, which in turn will have a positive effect on our competitive position in Europe,” Mr Thompson told the publication.

OAGT isn’t the only port to be expanding its capacity at present. Tank Storage Magazine recently reported that Vopak plans to expand its Alemoa terminal in Brazil by constructing 16 new storage tanks.

This equates to an additional 61,000 cubic metres of capacity, which will bring total capacity on the site to 235,000 cubic metres. The new storage is set to be used for ethanol exports, as well as the import of diesel and petrol.
